Los Angeles and the 2024 Olympics

Los Angeles commercial real estate for sale or leaseFollowing are some details on the $4.1 billion plan to host the 2024 Olympics

The Olympic Village is proposed for the Piggyback Yard site along the LA River, which revitalization activists have been interested in for years for river restoration and green space.  Private developers would take the lead on the project with only $75,000,000 coming from the Olympic organizers.

Now that the Army Corp of engineers have backed the most expensive and extensive plans for the riverfront  redevelopment and restoration http://la.curbed.com/archives/2014/12/army_corps_now_reevaluating_billiondollar_la_river_rehab.php it’s expected that the 113 acre site officially known as the Los Angeles Trailer and Container Intermodal Facility would be the site of the Olympic Village.  Activists then hope that the Olympic Village can be turned into low cost housing to serve the East Los Angeles area after the Olympics.

Next big question is where they will relocated the Los Angeles Trailer and Container Intermodal Facility (Piggyback Yard) given that the Port of Los Angeles and Long Beach have become one of the busiest ports in the world.  They can’t redeveloped it and not replace it somewhere, and it’s going to need to be fairly close to the port.

Just think of the multiunit housing, net leased retail and office that the project could spur.

I think we’re heading into the most exciting time in LA’s history.  See the link below for most of the detail known to date.
